其實我已經是很注意節約用水的好市民，你看我上一季的水費單：
詳細看這水費單，你就可以看到其搵笨之處了！真正收我的「用水」費用只是55澳元，另有18元是「供水費」，43元「接駁費」、123澳元「排污費」，後三者加起來是180元，比實際用水的55元超出很多(雖然我知道這條數，是以一個比例按用水量來收的)。
我上一季已經厲行節約用水，成效顯著，比前一季少了很多，由 37kilolitre 減到 27 kilolitre，減少了起碼25%，比以往的用量，以及全市平均和本區住戶平均要低得多：
但是水費單的總額減了多少？只是區區的20元！真是豈有此理！

I am not sure about Queensland, but here in South Australia, the bulk of the water bill is made up of the connection fee, which is _NOT_ related to water usage but property value! Basically means you are encouraged to use MORE water so as to make your connection fee more worthwhile.

回覆刪除也不是，實情是市政府成立了一間「公司」承包水務之後，越收越貴。
刪除很多原先是政府負責的公共服務，都用這個方法斂財。

刪除Is water in Australia too expensive? It depends how you look at it. I know it is meaningless to compare my water bill with yours. However, I can tell you that I pay close to Can$1000 a year for water and sewage. I live in a small town in Ontario. It is life’s necessity that I have to pay no matter what. I know it will cost me more if I am allowed to fetch water from the river. In rural Canada homeowners can dig a well to draw water and use septic tank to treat your own sewage. Would it be cheaper than connection to a municipal system? I cannot tell. But considering the maintenance and operating of the system, I doubt I will opt for that route.
回覆刪除The water charge actually is a government tax. Consumers are free to lobby the government to reduce the bill or free of charge. However, the government expenses must come from somewhere and there is only one tax payer that is us.
Or one can lobby for privatization of the water department. The taxpayers will pay the true operating cost plus the profits of the corporation that runs it.

刪除經驗說因為要個 front lawn back lawn 綠草如茵，
在沒有下雨的時候要早晚灑水，冬天應該費用較低！
不管水費高低，保持慳水習慣是好的。
刪除搞個靚草坪實在是很不環保。
不保養好個 Lawn 會被洋人鄰居投訴，例如：雜草叢生不及時鏟草也嘢官非。

I have no problem paying the fair amount if that is needed. I am not happy, however to not tie the bulk of the bill to water usage. This makes a very little incentive to use less water, which is what we as a whole should aim for. In fact, as I have commented, it's actually encourage more water usage!

刪除「排污費」真是很勁，而且沒辦法節省。我像你一樣，只是做飯、飲用、洗衣和淋浴，清潔車只用水抹，從不澆草，但水費還比你高。

回覆刪除理論上，食水離開濾水廠時，是超乾淨的。
刪除但那個輸往住宅的系統是很舊的，有些已有百年。有個做過市政府工程部的朋友告訴我，掘開一些舊水管，看到內部生滿綠色的植物，中間只有如筷子般幼的通道給水流過！
Hopefully, those 綠色的植物 filter the water. (Kidding.)
刪除You're right, the problem is in the pipes. I won't drink tap water without filtering it. You never know what's in it. A problem in the US is that there are prescription drugs in many cities' water systems.
A few years ago I had a problem with my tap water after my complex installed some new pipes. I found some thick, deep brown residual liquid I hadn't seen before in my distillation machine. I suspected that it's something on the pipe connections. They wouldn't fix it. Well, I found out that filtering would do the job getting rid of the brown thing. So, I didn't need to distill the water. Otherwise, it would have cost me a lot more. --zpdrmn
英國的水費也很貴。我這間屋是四位朋友分租，每月每人要交£11.05，即是一間屋每一季(三個月)=£11.05*4*3=£132.6 = 澳幣約 $220。電和煤氣也很貴，最高試過一季£413.06，冬天暖氣很貴！另外，council tax = £1500 一年 (學生可免費，一般人按房屋價值計算) 。TV license = £145 一年（當然也可以選擇不看電視，只靠上網看新聞)

題外話，似乎只有英鎊叫 pounds，英國所有殖民地都叫 dollars (Canadian Dollars, Australian Dollars, Hong Kong Dollars) ，何解？
澳洲以前也叫pound，1966年改為dollar。

香港就不知道了。

Cheer up. It's not that expensive. It's around $100 per month, even if you use some more water. Sewage treatment isn't cheap. You don't want pollution in your water system. (Years ago sewage treatment might not have been that expensive and the standards that high.) --zpdrmn

刪除I am living in Logan area, I have SEPTIC tank, so no need to pay sewerage charge. I have 35,000L rain water tank for toilet, shower, washing. Only kitchen sink use town water for cooking.
回覆刪除My recent water bill only consumed 5kL water, so for 87 days, cost me $69.75 for water service charge and $16.41 water consumption = $86.16. Here Logan water charge higher then Brisbane. Council rate cost me $353.35.

刪除澳洲生活開支很大，車保險如年少於一萬公哩，住屋保險地址也會影晌保費，少數怕長計！

刪除每日約 300升用水仍是高，我們人數比你多，用水量卻低一半，廁所水箱用水最多，改裝了用節水的沖水未？
